After hearing a few good reports, myself and ukfisher decided to try the canal behind the Running Horses in Maghull,we arrived about 7.00am and set up on two pegs next to each other with an overhanging willow between us. To my left at 13mtrs towards the tree I loose feed hemp, straight out in frount went a big pot of caster and hemp and to my right three cups of liquidised bread. First chuck using a small pellet of punched bread a few inchs off bottom and the float buried, the no4 elastic came streaming out .After a good fight on light tackle a 2lb tench was in the net. The next few cast on a heavy rig and big punch fished overdepth resulted in two Bream about 2lb each and small silver fish. I then lost a good fish on the caster, but the hemp brought a few stamp roach but bites where slow. Back on the bread and another Bream was netted in between the small roach and skimmers. I ended the day with 1 Tench,3 Bream and a few lbs of small fish for a total of about 9lbs. Andy had one Bream about 3lbs and small fish for 5lbs. The canal fished really well, with fish topping everywhere.Last Sundays match was won with 8lbs of roach on hemp and of the 30 anglers who fished the lowest weight was 2.5lbs.Great fishing and its free. We did take a few pictures on a phone and Ill try and put them on later.

It sounds like you had a good morning mate, I'll keep a look-out for the photos. You definitely picked the right time to go today i.e. early not late, have you seen the weather!?
I haven't fished the canal for a while now, been concentrating on pigs with fins too much. I'm looking forward to getting back on there now though!
