i was first to arrive at the plough inn car park, was;nt long before tabby arrived closely followed by bassmachine,as some of the sdaa lads were meeting us there we drove the 5 min trip to the sluice, first look at the water and the levels looked a good three feet down from the norm and was pushing through with a bit of pace,as the FM team looked a little under strenth,me and BM to be precise it was decided to call it a get together rather than a match with one eye who was to catch the most fish.
after setting up low to the water on what would have been the near ledge i still had 10-11m to the far bank to play with after a bit of plumbing up decided to fish at about 10m and cupped in some hemp and caster, now the fun begins a centerpin and stickfloat wouldnt have looked out of place, i soon changed to a round bodied float as a slim float was hard to hold back and was continually being pulled under by the current.
after several "runs through" the float went and a nice roach came to the net soon followed by another, things went a little quiet, after feeding more hemp a bit of a purple patch followed with more roach, rudd a single perch and a nice bream all found their way into the net,it again went quiet so in went more hemp,
while shipping back a small roach the elastic suddenly shot out just as quich the rig minus hooklenth and small roachie pinged back over my head, the sluice also holds some good pike!! this was confirmed by sdaa member paul (i think, terrible with names, sorry mate) who was soon into a 4n half pounder in the next peg.well from there on in bites were hard to find apart from a long hard fight with a good bream which i lost at the net
wouldnt like to say how bassmachine got on,im sure he will be along later BTW mate you have the strongest southport ?accent ive ever heard, hence the blank expressions
so tabbys good bag of silver fish backed up with a nice brace of tench won the day, well fished mate,
it was again good to meet fellow members on a challenging water that offers a great days fishing providing you get it right.
