any ideas were we could have the next match, id love to say a river somewere (after all weve done a canal and lake) but its probably easiest to go for another comercial
if we could pick a venue round wigan/st helens it would be ideal for those from manchester, but it depends on how many manchester lads would be up for it
if were stuck we could always go back to rosmary woods, it seemed a pretty fair venue to me

Seeing as you all liked my suggestion of Rosemary Wood so much, why not try contacting the Secretary at Southport & District Angling Association, and see if you can book the match length of the River Crossens (aka The Sluice)??
That'll sort the men from the boys...

im not fussed! wouldnt mind another crack at rosemary, enjoyed it there, markys suggestion of the sluice sounds good, never fished a river but thats what its all about(never stop learning ) could do with a few more from this end of the lancs,(come on lads)if only to show me the way to the venues my navigation system (autoroute 2001 ) let me down badly finding rosemary

I agree with you Dave Rosemary wood is a pretty fair venue as it's got no feature at all. Green Lane Fishery is quite good, but then if you pick a good peg, next to weed or close to Island it's hard to beat.

i was thinking of orrel resevoir its in the middle, not to hard to get to and theres a good chance we can book it, but at least with rosmary you know you dont have to have the money up front and you can let the lads know late in the day how many will be on it

as for the rivers kevin, thats one of the things that will put a lot of people off, im quite happy on them but like yourself and mathew and im sure a lot of others they will have never fished one and wont have the tackle either, probably best to stick to puddles really

I think a few people will struggle on rivers including myself. I would prefer to stick to a commercial.
Rosemary was good and seemed pretty central to all. Maybe we could book the small one next time if available.
I can fish any Sunday but I know others cant due to work reasons.
So lets throw a few dates in the hat and take it from there.
How about.......
August 20th
August 27th
Septemer 3rd.
Im available for all three.

I would have went with the end of Sep/Oct,Lots of people go on holiday during Aug beginning of Sept.
But alot of it depends on what dates the lake has available.

Maybe I should set the record straight before some people start thinking there's something akin to the Trent flowing north of Southport. The Sluice is only called the River Crossens due to the fact that it has an induced flow created by the pumping station at Banks, near Southport - where the excess water from the low-lying farmland nearby is drained into The Sluice and then pumped out to sea. If it wasn't pumped to maintain the levels, the land would flood again!
The water itself has a large head of Bream over 6lb, Tench up to 9lb+ and lots of Roach, Rudd, Perch, etc. It's about 16-18m across at the widest point, but is almost uniform in appearance on the match length, which is capable of accommodating up to 100 anglers - with very well spaced pegs.
After a heat-affected start to the season, there are steadily-increasing mixed bags coming out, with Tench regularly featuring in winning weights in the weekly club matches. The Tench and Bream are probably among the best condition fish in the North West - the Tench are certainly very entertaining when hooked!
If enough people are interested, I can enquire as to the possible availability through SDAA.

Anything except dedicated pond-pig tactics.
Pole at most lengths from nearside margins to far-side, with red maggot, corn, worm, hemp, bread, etc. Pellets won't catch many fish due the fact the water isn't fished enough for the stocks to become aware of them. There are a few carp, but very few & far between and catches of them are almost unheard of.
Waggler will also take plenty of fish, as will legering. In general, it's almost like beefed up canal fishing, as there is hardly any current or draw in normal circumstances. I've caught Tench at all depths so various presentations can be used, the same applies to the silver fish present.
However, if the pumps start, the flow is VERY fast and the level can drop like emptying a bath.

Iv fished the drains a few times and there not easy waters, its very similar to fishing the canal. If we had a match on here we'd have fished a canal, puddle and a drain.Iv never heard of SDAA allowing a club to have a match on there waters as they have there own match most Sundays.

You could always enter the SDAA Centenary Open on 10th September.
80 peg match - £25 entry and there's £2400 of prize money. Go to the club's website where there are further details.

£2400 prize sounds very attactive, but £25 entry... sounds like I am going for fishing and donation.. no chance at all
