An idea came up in a post before about having a small league.
I for one am interested.
We can have a five match one and maybe sort out some winnings for the overall winner.
we will have a points system in place and see how we get on.
i wont go any further until we see if anyone is up for it.
if so we can sort out the rules, winnings and other stuff between us all.

If you have 5 but only count your 4 best results it gives people who miss one a fairer chance. Did that sound right?.

Can be like from next time 6quid all in...5quid is for that match and the 1 extra quid goes into the final winner pool. Lets say every match got 10 anglers and the leage got 5 matches, then 10 X 5 = 50pounds will be the final winner's prize! Smugde I know what you mean, but I think it won't make the leage fairer. Counting all 5 matched will encourage people attend all matches and that's just what we want.

trouble with that is there has already been 2 matches, i think for this year there should be no money involved and it should be the bragging rights that are important, when there is money involved it can get too serious and ive seen serious fallings out over a couple of quid , id rather it was just a fun thing with a little added spice of a couple of quid thrown in

We could buy one of those cups or shields from taskers and the winner of the league keeps it till dethroned. They dont cost much and you get your name inscribed. It,ll look lovely on our mantlepiece.

im with dave on the bragging rights, were 2 matches in and bit unfair on the others smudges suggestion of 4 out of 5 is a fair either omit your worst result or you can miss one out due to work or holidays ? but a individual winter league wold be a different matter

the only downside to winter leauges is getting people to fish them, you could be working hard all day for a couple of fish and getting people to commit to this is hard, its not like summer were there is a chance of bagging up

Nice one Dave. Nice to see I'm framing I'm happy to go with a five match one if anybody else is. Maybe to save all the hassle of searching for venues we could go straight with a five match one at Rosemary. We have all fished it and after a couple more matches we will all have a better idea about the place. This should make it a bit more exciting towards the end as nobody will have an advantage of fishing a water others haven't. Just a thought..................... I do agree with an earlier post of having your best top four weights though. just in case there is a time when someone cant make it.

right if we say then last sun was the first if they are all gona be on rosemary how about sat 9th sept sun 17 sept sun 1st oct sat 7th oct this gives everyone a fair chance as some find it hard to make saturdays and others find it hard for sundays. It also gets it out of the way before the cold weather starts to set in. What you lot think? And cyp tell your ma to bring you up she can always go on a mc'ds run for us all.

A league is a good idea and the points system that dave suggested looks fine, the only problem will be getting five matchs in before the end of the year that everybody can attend.Looking at the dates suggest I think I might only be able to attend one. Might be a better idea to book five matchs on Rosemary Wood for next year ,spread over the whole year.

i still think this year we should have it as an ad hoc series of matches, not too serious with the money as a secondry prize to the bragging rights and with the emphasis on having a laugh
we can keep it friendly and informal, start off walking rather than running into things full pelt as it were, FM is still relitetevly new and i dont want any bitching and backstabbing that you can get on other forums to start, if there is too much money involved it can get poeople taking it too serious

I used to be in Fords (transmission) fishing club for many years. They used to have a league for the whole season - every outing was a match. One of there rules was that if you attended the trip you got one point as well as any that you might have won in the match. This caused some bitterness because some not very good match-men always seemed to win the league because they could attend every trip and accumulated a lot of points this way. Others couldn't compete every week (those who had young families, big mortgages to pay etc and had to work overtime some weekends or take the family out ). I saw life long buddies fall out and one very close pair of friends never spoke to each other again for years. I myself got to hate matches and swore that I would never fish another match because it took the enjoyment out of it for me. There is nothing worse that travelling all the way to say Welshpool and getting drawn in a crappy swim and having to fish it all day because you needed the points for the league. I do know others live for match fishing but I am afraid it is not for me. Woody
