I was planning on fishing Rosemary Wood this morning with alan76 & ukfisher but when we got there at 10 there were matches on both lakes and plenty of pleasure anglers on the spare pegs. We decided on a move and Alan said he knew of a place a bit further up the road that rarely gets many visitors so thats where we headed...
...when we got to Drummersdale there were a few cars parked up but only one angler on the nice looking bottom lake. Back to the cars, unload the gear and then off to pick our pegs on the bottom lake. Alan immediately decided on a peg at the leeward end (it was blowing a bit of a hooley!) and after some deliberation Andy chose the peg next to his brother (pair of jessies!). I, on the other hand, decided to brave the elements and set up on a peg opposite the reeds about 5 pegs down from Alan.
I kicked off with a pot of 3mm pellets and corn next to the reeds at 11m and another at 5m. Depth in both swims was about 4ft. Started on 4mm expander and had a small (2oz) carp first cast followed by a roach about the same size straight after. Changed to corn and had a slightly better common about 6oz. Sticking with the corn hookbait and feeding a kinder pot of pellet/corn after every fish brought more small pasties every chuck until I hit a slightly better fish. This took me by surprise as it headed straight for the reeds and snagged me. I tied on a new hooklength and went back out to more 6oz fish. I did hook and land a better one shortly after but the rest of the session was a case of a pastie-a-chuck on corn whilst battling the elements. Expanders were a waste of time unless you wanted tiny roach and carp. I never had a touch on the 5m line.
Alan & Andy's days were much the same, loads of small carp! All-in-all not a bad day's fishing and another venue to add to my list. Oh and the owner didn't come round to collect ticket money so we all saved a few quid
