I grabbed a few hours on the cut last night, on the stick-ups by the Ship Inn.
Took pinkies, hemp and bread with me so started on bread at 9m for a dozen or so roach and a hybrid about 6oz before moving over to my pinkie/hemp line by the reeds. I was busy catching small roach and perch every chuck, with the odd better hybrid, until a pike about 6lb snaffled a small roach on the way in. I know it was about 6lb because I got it to the net twice (on 3s elastic and .07 bottom mind) before it bit me off!
With that bit of excitement over it was back to smaller stuff on pinkie or bread - only had a couple of knocks on hemp.
Half an hour left I thought "f**k it" and dumped a load of pinkies in next to the reeds. This brought in loads of bits until out-of-the-blue a 2lb tench had my double pinkie hookbait. Again a hairy fight on the light gear, but this one had no teeth so I got it in. Isn't it noticeable how the better fish always start to have a go in the last hour of daylight?
By this time it was 9PM and I was getting hungry myself so after a couple more bits I packed up and headed for home.

Shame you were laid up mate, was a nice evening. I have has a few tench off the cut so far this year yeah, not had one from the Ship before though.
I went with the intention of seeing what I could do with pinkies and hemp, hedged my bets with the light rig really because I like to use a soft rubber with hemp. Did have a heavier rig set up for big punch/treble pinkie but hooked the better fish on the light one. Water was clear too so that might have made a difference.

Not practice as such mate, I've fished the cut after work a few times this year 'cos its local & cheap. I have no secrets so I'm quite happy to post what I'm up to, just don't listen to a word because I'm crap!
