an early start at 6am ensured we were near the front of the queue to get onto lingmere sunday, at 6.30 on the dot we started round the lake, there was a couple of fellas just in front of us so mick says hang on to see if they jump in the hot pegs, they didnt so we did, leaving the other 2 pegs for a father and son of about 11.
we started off on the feeder towards the island, apparently the trick is to cast abour 3 foot off the island just off the shelf, mick was using a method feeder and i was on a cage seeing as id left my method feeders in my carp gear last weekend
first cast and i had a nice tench and mick had a nice carp so things were looking favourable, the father and son duo were also into fish straight away, then things for me and mick went slow, mick was getting the odd fish whilst i coudn't buy a bite even though we were fishing only about 3 foot apart
i gave it 2 hours with only getting the odd fish whilst micks catcxh rate was hotting up before i decided on chucking out the pole, first cast at 7m ( there is an awkward high bank so i stuck at this for ease of us) and i was into fish, small carp, some lovely colored koi carp, bream, roach.rudd chub and barbell kept me busy, i had been feeding a swim at 11m and one right at my feet and to keep the bite coming thick and fast alternated between the swims, every now and again (when i fancied a coffeee or a butty) i chucked the feeder out but it was slow out there with only the odd fish showing
micks bites soon dryed up eventually so he to went out on the pole to catch similiar to me
as for the father and son on our original pegs...they battered them, catching big fish to about 15lb's right through the day on cubes of meat coated in something (i had a quick spy on my way to the cafe), they even had to phone for more bait they were doing that well, they were still hard at it at 7pm when we were leaving i said will you be back tommorow..the dad said he coudnt manage it as his arms were killing him
i enjoyed the day, the wind chill made it a little coild but what the hell thats what god invented coats for
