hi guys - im going river fishing in a couple of weeks now normally i use a fixed spool reel when trotting the stick float but in the past ive seen anglers using a fly reel which looks ideal for the job , but which type of reel would i need as i know there are different types of reels ?

I doubt very much that they are using a fly reel, what you see them using is a centre pin reel - these have very free running spools and the best are very expensive. Just use your fixed spool reel and leave the bale arm off, controlling the float with your finger on the spool. When you get a bite wind the handle to click the bale arm over. Cheers Woody

Why not try using a closed face reel, see if you can get yourself a Daiwa 125/125M should be able to pick one up really cheap on ebay.

The fish don,t give 2 fcuks what reel your using. Stick with what you know. And give any thing that looks like the one in the photo a very wide berth.

Every time you submit something it seems to be a negative comment if you can't contribute something useful then PISS OFF somewhere else. Woody

Do you have anything positive to contribute? If not do as I suggested. Woody

DaveB, Don't tell smudge about the change of picture. (At least he has actually given someone a sensible answer at last.)
