I am joining a match this sunday at Martin Hall Fishery. There are 2 canal lakes with width 5-10M with depth 2-5 feet, which's designed for pole fishing. But the weather forcast looks awlful, with wind 17mph and rain. if I am lucky enough to draw a peg with 7M or less width I'll stick on pole. But if it's the widest peg with a side wind, what would you do? ( I don't fish waggler only got pole and feeder rod)

you will have to pole fish it mate, have a swim at 7 m and then one either side down the inside, start out at 7 m , have a little go for 5 mins just putting a couple of bits of what ever bait you are planning on using, just to see if there is anything in the swim to start off with, if not put in a couple of cup fulls and then fish over it, putting in little and often, keep feeding one of the inside swims little and often (but not the other one)if you notice any activity in this swim have a go see if you can bag an extra fish.
about 3/4 of the way through the match put in a couple of big handfulls of bait in the other inside swim( and then no more) and then go over it, with any luck fish will move in onto this bait thinking its the end of the match and you are putting in your extra bait you dont want
as for the side wind i woudn't worry too much @ 7m you should be ok but just remember if you win any money i will charge you a consultation fee

thanks bigdave for the tips, hope I get a good peg. So if I got a peg need 10M+ to reach the far bank, I should still better use pole but fish at shorter length at 7M as you said, or try with method feeder? I've never fished there don't think I can win, so forget about your fee!

Kev, if it's only ten metres wide I wouldn't fish the method unless I wanted to make myself very unpopular! Best stick to the pole, although I would be prepared for the fish to back off to the far bank once you've got a line of anglers with their nets in the water. If you're limited to 7m you could find yourself snookered.

the best advise i can give you is always use:
1) a hook, always gud for hooking the fish.
2) line, gotta connect hooks to line so fish cant make a quick escape.
3) float, so u can see the bite.
4) bait, put some bait onto the hook so the fish eats the hook.
5) pole, connect the line to the pole so u can pull the fish in.
if u follow me tips i am sure that u will be able to catch fish. good luck mate...lol
