Took my son to the Dane early this morning. He couldn't fish as he has a broken arm but he wanted to come. Got thre about 5.15 am and the swim we chose looked perfect with the mist on the surface! Rhys was enjoying it even though the fishing was slow. He was fascinated feeding pellets to the minnows in the shallows and watching them fight over something nearly half their size...LOL. Anyway, missed a few bites, then the rod went round and I felt solid resistance. A couple of minutes later this 3lb 13oz barbel was in the net. Nothing then until 8ish when the tip bounced and I hooked something VERY heavy. It shot out from the tree into open water and after a few heartstopping seconds the line went slack! It smashed 10lb braided hooklength well away from the knot in open water! GUTTED! I am convinced it would have smashed my PB barbel. Moved downstream with no success until 11 when we packed up. Gutted about the big one but to catch a barbel on any day in my book is a top day!
