Mathew and me fished Rosemary Wood this morning to have another practice session. He tried the rod and reel while I just pole fish close in. We both caught steadily through out the session, each managed 80lb+ carp to 5lb mark. The 5 pounders in Rosemary all fought like TYSON! They bottomed out my maver 12-20 elastic and took a couple of min to land, I am thinking to get a 16-20 to combat this. Tip Man Mathew Today I fed 2 tin of corn, one tin of hemp half bag pellets and half kilo groundbait but seem not enough. Still caught some roach and a perch on corn.

All this practice,Iv learned from experiance that venues never fishs the same when you have a dozen anglers turn up and throw in their nets, not much info either are you keeping it to yourself. The water level looks lower than last time you went, are they still pumping water out?If the weather stays warm theyll keep pumping ,Iv seen it half the size it is now in the middle of summer, but the fishing normally gets better.

Yeah the water level is much lower from the last session. I remembered the last time Matt was able to get on the platforms and the water was just below him. But now the water has gone even lower.

There were 2 anglers right of us, and we were facing the wind. I didn't have a clue the opposite bank which back to the wind are FULL... We didn't see they land much fish. I didn't mean to keep any secret Alan Don't think you guys will follow a beginner's method anyway. :)I fished 3 swims today, 7M straight out fed with pellets and expanders on hook, 2 margins swims, 3M out 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock with 1.5feet of water fed mainly sweetcorn and hemp. I hooked a perch on corn!

Well done lads, funny how much the venue has changed in a week re. water levels. Hopefully there will be enough water left to fish in on the 6th! I'm thinking of fishing the open there on Sunday, that should give me a good idea of how it fishes under match conditions. I ain't relinquishing my title without a fight!
Mathew; standard feeder rig or method?

I tried the waggler for an hour on sunday and it handled the bigger carp better than my pole but i was also missing a lot more bites.

Sounds like a good venue, will have to give it a go one day. What does the day ticket cost? And are there any bans on bait or methods? Cheers Woody (Apprentice pole angler)

Matt, Thanks for the link, spot on.
It now raises another question or two - I see that some of you use the method, how do you do that if "Swim feeders/ledgers must be free running" and "No bolt rigs" ?
I read the rest of that link and it says that the owners state that you should just use a bit of common sense and the rules can be bent slightly but on a good day on the method I think that you could get through 2-3 kilos of method mix. Do you think that would be acceptable? (to the owners) Even Kevin states "Today I fed 2 tin of corn, one tin of hemp half bag pellets and half kilo groundbait but seem not enough" and that was only a pleasure session.
What do you regulars use and get away with?
Woody

All good point there mate,I walked round the lake the day Kev and co were fishing and alot of people were fishing fixed method feeders, the person collecting the money didnt ask them to stop so you can come to your own conclusion. Method feeders dont have to be fixed I bought some today for the match by Middy and they were free running,I agree you could use more than half a kilo of ground bait but this is where the comman sense comes in. It says on the rules that you cant use meat baits but they told me tonite that you can on the hook, you just cant feed any. I went for a drive tonight and the water level has dropped another 3ft and they had a pump working like a fountain to put some oxygen in the water,I asked the owners if the farmer was going to remove more water and they said they didnt know, but its still fishing well with plenty of people catching.
On the match I think everybody should stick to the rules ,including bait limits etc and then nobody will have an advantage, problem solved.

Alan76 said Are you sure they are free running? The middy ones I have seen use a swivel to semi - fix it as a bolt rig. The whole idea of the method feeder is that they are bolt rigs and the fish hook themselves. See here.

As far as Im aware these are allowed, these are what Ill be using.Alot of feeders including Fox and other leading tackle brand sell free running feeder using the same swivel principal.
I agree that they are semi fixed but it doesnt take any great force to pull the swivel from the bottom of the feeder,if it concerns you we can always check on the day.
Do you intent to fish the method and if so which feeder will you be using?
