Mathew and me fished the cut from 7am. We armed with white and red maggots, pinkies and caster. As I lost some tackles yesterday, today I only used 0.07mm line with size 22 maggot hook with size 4 elastic. My swim was around 6M out which's the deepest part of the canal, more than 5 feet deep. Mathew was right of me and he was trying the far bank later in the session. When I go to new water, I normally don't feed and just put a hookbait to search around the swim. Today I hooked something special, 2 feet long EEL!!!! don't know if it should be called a good start... (Mathew will have something to say about... ) Mathew tried to unhook it for me, it already bit through the line... one rig gone... After that I fed an orange size of Dynamite Silver X roach groundbait with some pinkies to kick start the swim. After half an hr I got my first "proper" fish which's a roach on white maggot. then I caught a few roach skimmer hybrid, I hooked to a bigger fish. It fought like TYSON which takes me over 10min to land it, it's a nice bream but foul hook next to the mouth. Then was catching perch and roach till around noon, the bites stopped as the sun is high up in the sky which's SO HOT! Also my other 3 rigs all tangled..... hate the thin line!!!! so we called it a day as we alreadt got some idea to fish the cut. Here's 2 of Mathew's fish. Andy and his kids came by when we were packing up, and he gave us some good tips! Nice to meet you Andy. (Mathew will also post a follow report with photos later today , I am gonna sleep now)

It looks lovely there, do you get any hastle from gangs of lads? Well we did had a bunch of local lads walking behind us, but I saw them from a distance and hid away my baitcasting rod in my rod holdall and slide my box of lures under my keepnet bag so that it was away from their sight But they didn't do much just the same old questions about how's the catch. Okie now it's my part of the report. Well I would have to say the most funny part of the day was when Kevin got into the eel. Once he was into it, he was exclaiming to me that it was a decent fish and he didn't even feed the swim yet .. But when the eel surface, I think Kevin could have broken the Guinness World Record for the most f*** words within 5mins. This is the eel that got kevin all worked up.. It seems that perch and roach were the order of the day. Till a decent size bream decided to have a go at Kevin. This kept Kevin occuppied for about 5mins+ till it was finally subdued. Kevin was grinning from ear to ear as we took the picture of the catch. As for me I only been catching perch and 1 roach on the far bank. Fishing with pinkies and maggots. Had about 11perch and 1 roach though. By the time it was almost 12, we had enuff of the sun and was burning up and decided to pack up. Just then Alan came along and we had a nice chat. Overall it was a nice day out which both of us didn't blanked at all.. Phew.... But I got to admit, canal fishing is much harder then commercial fisheries and even GreenBank. Think I'll have another go on Thursday as it's my next off day. Cheers.

My brother took a walk to the locks ysterday and this was the message he sent me.....
'I went for a walk with sue today down the canal from lightbody street down to the lock's. There was still shitloads of 2lb perch under the bridge, but when we went down the lock's by the heritage market, theres like a big patch of canal between two lock,s bout half the size of everton park baths, we were standing on a bridge above it and saw huge shoals of bream like 3/400 between 2lb and 10lb and there was millions of all kinds of fish going past it was like a big aquarium and there all trapped between the lock's!! but I dont know how rough it is around there with scallys and that.'
I'll have that peg for the match... lol

If your gonna meet at 8 you should have drawn by 8.15 ,all in at 9.00am fish 9.oo till 2.00,evaerybody should be on there way home for .3.00. Somebody will need to go down about 7.30 and put the peg numbers down, unless you have a rover match ,were everybody picks their own pegs, its a bit less formal and alot more fun!

A few rule made up by BigDave and Rafalution. Keep it simple is the key. 1) competitors are allowed to plum the depth prior to the match but no bait must be used till "the all in". 2) A competitor shall have in use one rod or pole, one line and one single hook at one time 3) competitors have 10 minutes to play any fish after the "all out" if it was hooked prior to it, if you are playing a fish when the all out is called you must shout out to your neighbours to let them know you are playing a fish caught prior to the end of the match. 4)pay out will be .....1st 50% 2nd 30% 3rd 20% 5) All fish must be landed at your peg and no walking the bank if you land a big one. Hpe you all agree

i think i'll give it a miss then Nah Only Messin honestly I've dumbed in a lot of bait at the end of the session, nearlf half pint of casters, half pint of maggots, half pint of expanders and some groundbait...
Post by ukfisher on Jun 6, 2006 23:05:58 GMT
that is a valid point someone could pre bait and that is cheating so how can you find away around it. maybee it is best to just pick numbers and draw your peg
Post by daveb on Jun 7, 2006 20:03:23 GMT
the open matches at blundells are rovers, you still draw a number, if you draw number 1 your first to pick your peg and so on,not foolproof but surely no one would dare cheat on sunday.................................................................................................................would they?
