After fished several months in fishery, I've got the basics of coarse fishing and it's time to challenge the local GREENBANK PARK! I chose 2 swims next to lily pads, each cupped with 2 balls of groundbait and made my first cast at 6am. Bait was 4mm VDE light expander. I caught 5 roach for the first hour, then managed a 2lb skimmer. Then was into some roach... suddenly the float disappeared in LIGHTENING SPEED and I striked. I quickly steered the fish away from the snags and a double figure common jumped up the water then bottomed out my elastic in no time and hook pulled, GUTTED! I was using maver 12-20 hollow, 0.16 line with size 16 B911 which managed me some 10lb carps in fishery, but not the Greenbank tyson carp. After a quiet period, I managed a few roach then a nice crucian which made me smile again. Then there's road work in the park then I just packed up and finished a 3.5hr session. Not a bad day out and I'll be back Mr Carp!

nice to see that you are going to the local parks.. though it's harder fishing there.. but if you get them the satisfaction is always there

But I think it's just not easy to land the carp on pole.....red hydro MIGHT got chance but then need to match with size 14 hook and bigger bait, means less / even no bite. gotta use rod and reel. by the way the heavy tackle caught me 20 roach around 4oz size, and I bumped many off and missed countless bites also. I can't imagine how good the roach sport can be if using maggot + light tackle mate.

err... yeah I did say better use rod and line. An angler managed a 15lber by 2 lb line on rod a couple days ago.
Problem is I don't have any coarse rod. I got a 9 ft pier rod and size 5500 reel which might do the carp work but that's heavy mate.
