I don't know where to start today, Got up walked out into the conservatory and it sounded like someone was pouring marbles on the roof, it was raining quite heavily.
Anyway sort myself out, gets the bait from the shed and we set off. For the people who don't know where it is when you come to the bridges where you would turn off for Bannister House/Farm go straight on and head for Much Hoole, take the Much Hoole exit from the Little Chef Roundabout on the A59. Turn left onto Smithy Lane just before the Smithy Inn, at the bottom, turn left onto Moss House Lane. The road bends sharply to the right, ignore this, and carry straight on even though it is signposted no through road.
The fishery is about 1/2 mile up on the left hand side.
Anyway the venue consists of 2 lakes each consisting of around 20 - 30 pegs each. I decided to fish the new match lake the one behind the log cabin.
(Make a note of the colour of the sky this was at 8:30am)
The weather was miserable to say the least. The match lake as you can see is rectangular split in the middle by an island at 13m. Average depth in the middle is about 4-5 ft, then at about 10m there is a shelf of about 2.5-3ft deep, the island has some good features to fish up against but it is shallow so really for the summer.
I fished mostly on the shelf or just off it this was the average size of the fish average size of the fish caught on Maggot and Caster. Although I did have one decent Skimmer and a Ghost Carp on corn.
My dad fished close in with just his top three sections on maggot, caster and black caster. Given the weather was the right thing to do to improve bait presentation, as he had a good day with some good sized roach, rudd, Skimmers and Ide as seen below.
(Proof the teacher is still better than the pupil)
Don't worry dad I'll be back
The weather really turned nasty then hail stones gusty swirling wind, and it was time to call it a day. As usual pack up get back to the car and the sun cracks the flags.
(weather after we had packed up and were on our way home)
I'm going back tomorrow I think.
