Having a slow day at work so decided to finish at 4 and grab a couple of hours on the cut. Traffic was kind (school hols so no mums in their 4x4s to contend with) which meant I was tackled up & in the water by 5:15 with 3 hours of light left.
Only fished the one line over by the rushes and started off cupping in a couple of tennis balls of supermatch laced with hemp, pinkies and maggots. 10 minutes in & the first fish was in the net, a lovely 8oz roach! A couple of minutes later and a slightly smaller sample was on the way in. This set the scene for the next few hours with roach, rudd, perch, small skimmers & a 2lb bream coming regularly to pinkie or maggot hookbait. Carried on till last knockings & was rewarded with a 1lb roach on treble red maggot on (almost) my last cast! All-in-all a nice few hours of proper fishing using 4s elastics & .07 bottom, bit different to the 'mercials! ;D
Relaxing with a couple of beers before bed now & somehow I don't mind having to be back in the office tomorrow morning.
Tight lines Matt

well done matt i am glad to see that there are people out there using the cut. it is a big shame that one of the best waters around is being overlooked, due to holes in the ground being over-stocked with small carp. i really urge people to at least take the cut into consideration. i swear if you do you will reap the rewards and have many good days

the cut is the nickname of Leeds-Liverpool canal, why's that?

It's just like a cut in the land, engineers would CUT their way through a "mountain", flat land etc; to build canals.

Yeah "the cut" is any canal (I suspect this is extended to any man-made waterway) in the country, it just happens that my local one is the leeds-liverpool. If I fish the Bridgewater this weekend, as I plan to do, then I will also be fishing a "cut". It's a ubiquitous colloquialism I believe.
I agree with Andy on this one, the leeds-liverpool is underfished currently, at least by pleasure anglers (there still seem to be plenty of matches on there). Without wishing to open a can of worms (excuse the pun) I think there are several reasons why this is the case; certainly most pegs on our local commercial waters can offer far better returns than most canal pegs, but also the fact that the Liverpool DAA water is now fishable by card only is enough to put many pleasure anglers off IMHO

Pardon me for being thick but what the hell does "ubiquitous colloquialism" mean Dr Matt82.

I wish I were a doctor, they earn a mint! In answer to your question a ubiquitous colloquialism is a form of expression used in familiar talk which can be found everywhere, as opposed to local slang.
