we were planning on going to bluestones in mawdesley on sunday, but after a few beers on saturday LOL coudnt get out of bed early enough to ensure we got a decent peg so a quick rethink was needed, we decided to try out a little fishery up towards southport called mere lane (just before bannisters)
we set up in 2 pegs that gave us an easy cast to the small island ( ive found out since that these are the 2 hot spots)in the lake as LOL wanted to sit it out on the tip whilst i set up the pole, i had a 2 shallow rigs either side of me and another swim out at 11m.
i decided on different tactics to use in the differnt swims as neither of us had been here before, so i fed heavy in the 11m swim, regularly in the swim to my right and just dripped in th odd pellet and sweetcorn on my left, this unfortunately resulted in me not getting a single bite in all three swims , tried pellet/corn/meat and maggot...not a touch
LOL had decided on a small cage feeder fished tight to the island with red maggot on the hook, he was lucky enough to hook a little skimmer but apart from a couple of bites that he missed that was his lot
there was a couple of other fellas fishing and we never saw them catch anything either, the weathewr was a bit against us,it was nice and sunny but it was blowing a hooley and the lake is very open and exposed, we were both freezing despite wearing both my coats so we decided after a couple of hours of this to shoot over to bannisters to see if we could find a more sheltered spot
