Arrived on the river late so never got a rod out till after 10am. Up stream rod had a 14 mm halibut and a big open ender stuffed with marine halibut groundbait and pellets. Down stream rod fished on the same line but about 20yds below had a size 10 hook with about 15 maggots on it and a big drennan blockend filled with maggots and cast every 10 mins. Had one good rap on the pellet which was probably a chub. The maggots down stream produced 4 good eels(but they dont count). Any way reeled both rods in and put the pellet one were the maggot one was and the maggot one were the pellet one was if you know what i mean. 5 mins later the pellet gets taken one of those very delicate barbel bites were the but of the rod hits you on the chin as it trys to steal your rod. It took at least 10 mins to land the fish due to it snagging me on every rock in the swim and i was convinced it was a monster. At just under 7lb it was a decent fish and the first barb i,v had for a few weeks. The power of these fish never ceases to amaze me thats why i dont mind a few blanks and i will keep at it till i get the elusive monster.
