Again, reading old threads, saw a request for directions to Hurlston. This one is really easy.
Take the A570 out of Ormskirk to Southport. As you leave Ormskirk you will see a petrol station on your right, and after a few hundred yards, a goose farm on you left.
After another few hundred yards (still on the A570) you will see the entrance to hurlston on your right. Pull in and follow the track down towards the golf club. near the bottom of the track, you will see the lake on your right, but you have to pull into the caravan site, and follow the signs all the way round the caravans to the fishery car park.
Hurlston is a superb fishery whether you are a 'podded up' carp angler, or like me, a general pleasure angler. If your going for the carp, keep it simple. you dont need big leads or bolt rigs. A simple running ledger will do the business. Try maple flavoured chick peas on a short hair (worked for me last season) If you are after roach, try caster over hemp. You should catch pretty much from the off, put stick at it as I find that as you keep the feed going in, the fish get bigger and bigger. It wouldnt surprise me if a 3lb roach came out in the next year or two.
The only downside is that the owner has changed the opening and closing times to 8am and 8pm. Its a bugger cos that last hour at night is very productive
